Top 20 Ingredients for Any Homemade Product: Aloe Vera

Aloe Vera (also called aloe barbadensis) is a cactus-like plant growing in the warmer climates of the world and is described as succulent. Aloe vera is a very popular herbal remedy. The Aloe vera plant  is unique among plants for its importance in natural skin care. The skin is the largest organ in the human body and it really takes a beating. Aloe Vera can help alleviate this beating. Aloe vera contains burn healing effects, anti-inflammatory properties, scar reducing properties and wounds.

Aloe vera pulp is the clear, thick substance inside of the Aloe vera leaf. It is often used in skin care products because of its ability to stimulate healthy cell growth and repair damaged tissues. Aloe vera is known to have antiviral, antibacterial, and antifungal properties, which allow skin ailments to heal while reducing risk of infection. Aloe contains nutrients, vitamins, active compounds, essential minerals and amino acids that reduce inflammation. It is an odorless skin protector, non-toxic, non-greasy and allows the skin to breathe and perspire normally.

Aloe vera, especially when combined with other natural ingredients, can greatly enhance the skin and its ability to replenish skin cells. Components of aloe vera have been found to reverse degenerative skin changes by stimulating collagen and elastin synthesis, in essence turning back the clock on the effects aging has on skin. Studies show that Aloe Vera improves the skin's ability to hydrate itself, aids in the removal of dead skin cells and has an effective penetrating ability that helps transport healthy substances through the skin. It has the ability to offers more oxygen to the skin, which in turn increases the strength of the tissue as it can penetrate up to seven layers deep! This helps stimulate cell rejuvenation, keeping the skin moist and beautiful and gives the skin a more youthful look. For severe sunburn and/or sun poison, aloe vera can cool the burning skin and speed up the healing process. It can also be effective in treating psoriasis, insect bites, inflammation, fungus and acne. Aloe does not block oil production but it aids in the cleansing of the pore and moisturizing the skin because the gel inside of the plant is quickly absorbed when applied to the skin. Each of these factors make Aloe Vera an ideal ingredient in cosmetic and dermatological products. In fact, Aloe Vera is currently one of the most important ingredients in the cosmetics industry, being utilized in over 95% of the dermatologically valuable extracts manufactured
worldwide

I have started use aloe vera gel on my skin at night under my moisturizer and I noticed a difference almost immediately in terms of pore size, tone and shine. I was really impressed with the results. I have very oily skin, with large pores. I also have some acne and hyperpigmentation. I have suffered from acne most of my life starting from a young age and I hate the fact that as an adult I am still plagued with it. I am hoping to improve the way my skin looks and feels (I smell a mini challenge coming on), and I plan to incorporate aloe vera into my skin regimen to accomplish that.

Since my last two attempts at homemade create resulted in a few embarrassing setbacks I have also started to use aloe vera in my creams instead of water in my homemade creams because it appears to be more effective than water and reduces the risk of bacteria growth in my products. I have included a few aloe based recipes to get you started as well.
